When: Wednesday February 23rd 2011. 6:00pm – 9:00pm
For this months meeting we are again asking, “How do you use Lightroom?”. This time we are calling on Lightroom Tampa Bay member and professional photographer, Alex Mcknight.
I have worked with Alex since he began using Lightroom to get control of thousands of images a few years ago.
Join us for what is sure to be an entertaining session with Alex as he explains how he uses Lightroom to maintain that control with collections in the Library and provides his clients with easy to use galleries from the Web module.
Alex makes his living by licensing his images to magazines, ad agencies and
corporations. He will tell you “This is not a hobby. I run a business“,
but…, Alex says,
“That doesn’t mean I take myself too seriously but I certainly take the business of photography very seriously.
I rarely work alone. I work with a team very talented people that help me make better images, and better choices. I share the workload, the experience and the credit.
I believe that when I work with others, it frees me to concentrate on my objectives: good light, good composition and most of all a good story. All the while, learning, cooperating and collaborating with my team (though sometimes that can be just one assistant).
In the last few years, this team has expanded dramatically to include consultants, copywriters, more designers, and more
opportunities to work with post production/retouchers. Expanding the team past the “shoot” has helped me in creating my new venture: Archiva Images.
I’m an optimistic realist that occasionally suffers from analysis paralysis. In other words, I expect good things from life but I know you have to work hard (and sometimes go outside your comfort zone) to make things happen for you. And I think too much – or maybe just over-think to the point that I don’t do anything. Because I don’t want to end on such a negative note, I’ll add I have a passion for the what I call “the problem solving business” of photography. I can’t see doing anything else.”
